What is an FET College?
FET stands for Further Education and Training. These colleges are now also known as TVET colleges. TVET stands for Technical Vocational Education & Training. It is education and training provided from Grade 10 to 12, including career oriented education and training offered in technical colleges, community colleges and private colleges. Make sure the college is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training, otherwise it could be a SCAM. You have to be at least 16 years old to study at an FET college. You are still allowed to study at an FET/TVET college if you failed matric. FET Colleges focus on critical skills development in South Africa. The duration of the courses at a FET College varies from a short course of a few days, to a formal diploma course of three years. Most FET Colleges offer diplomas, but some offer graduate degrees as well.
